A Mischievous Squirrel

Guess who was "at it" again, at the Richmond Nature Park?

That's right! The adorable Douglas Squirrel!

He has a routine, this mischievous squirrel! It involves scaling the feeder post...

...and climbing onto the peanut feeder!

Sadly, while he's stuffing his cute little face with peanuts, this hungry Cooper's Hawk is on the hunt!

...but if there's one thing I know about the little Douglas Squirrel...it's that he's lightening fast! The Cooper's Hawk would have considerable trouble catching him.

Thank goodness....'cause this critter is too cute for his own good! The Park would not be the same without him!

Wouldn't you agree?

  5. It does look like the Cooper's Hawk has something in her talons but I can't make out what it...was. There's certainly not much of it left.

I've been told that the pair nesting in the park feed on the squirrels and songbirds found at the feeding stations. Some photographers have been fortunate enough to be sitting on the stools, admiring the birds, when the Hawk has swooped down and grabbed a tasty morsel and flown off. I haven't had the honor yet.
